You may have to do one or two websites at low cost or free to build up a initial portfolio. It’s a lot easier to rank for local search terms so the Businesses should get a lot more leads and customers thanks to your work. It will be easy to get recommendations for future paid work.

A great reasonably new service called Meetup.com is a great way to find a Mastermind Group in your local area. I suggest you look for people in the entrepreneur group in your area.
You can register your own profile and meet up with people of similar interests.
