Moving The Money Mountain

.

We all have aspirations.

Some of us have really grand ideas of “One day I’ll…………………………………….” (please complete the sentence).

We also have reasons not to do the things we really aspire to do, those things that will make us truly happy and proud of who we are. There’s plenty on that subject in Napoleon Hill’s book. I want to talk about one thing that stops a lot of people from pursuing their dreams. Money.

What Is Money?

“Money” is made up of pieces of green paper and numbers on a screen. Money is a promise to pay the bearer. I’ll say that again, it’s a promise to pay the bearer. Sure you can exchange it for goods and services, but it’s a promise. It’s a piece of paper with no actual value.

As Tyler Durden would say “You are not the contents of your wallet. You’re not your bank account”

Moving the Mountain

If you’re in debt and this is the thing stopping you from pursuing your purpose, then it’s a good idea to deal with it. Pay down your debts as fast as you can. Call your credit card company and make an arrangement where you pay as much as you can afford without compromising your living standards too much – don’t fall in to the trap of living on frozen pizza for eight years because you’re giving all your money to your credit card company. I knew a guy who did that and he had a lot of health problems by the end of it.

Actively seek opportunities to create a second income that can be spent solely on paying your debts, be it delivering pizza, or building websites. Spend your time making money, rather than spending it.

Divide your belongings into things you use and things you haven’t touched for a year. Everything in the haven’t-touched-for-a-year pile can go on eBay, or amazon. You’d be surprised what someone will pay for a batch of comics from 2003, or a leather jacket you wouldn’t be caught dead in after 1996.

Consider signing up as a healthy volunteer for paid medical trials. Sites such as GSK trials pay up to £2000 or $2500 and allow participants to return up to four times a year. Trials have legislative safeguards and are largely safe.

I’ve Moved the Mountain, Now What?

If money’s the reason you’re not pursuing your dreams, then pouring yourself in to removing this reason is going to put you in a position where you have no more excuses. It’s also going to give you some skills and income streams that don’t have to dry up. If you’ve been clever enough, you might have created an income stream that can continue while you pursue what you love.

Congratulations, you just changed your life. Now go forth with abandon and chase whatever it is you love, whatever it is that you thought of when you saw the incomplete sentence at the top of this post.
